Employment Law Fees

At The Law Firm of J.W. Stafford, L.L.C., we are transparent with our clients regarding the fees that we charge.  How many other employment law firms do you know put information regarding their fees front and center on their website?  Unlike other law firms that charge solely by the hour and often never reveal their rates until the end of your initial meeting with one of their attorneys, we detail below the fees we charge and the type of fee arrangements we enter into with our clients.

One-Hour Strategy Session (Also Known as an “Initial Consultation”):  $350.00 (nonrefundable)

The first step to getting your employment problem solved and working with us is to schedule a one-hour strategy session with one of our attorneys. Because of our commitment to providing high-quality legal counsel, we charge for our one-hour strategy sessions, also referred to by other law firms as an initial consultation.  The reason why we use the term “strategy session” and not initial consultation is because we do more than just ask you to show up at a scheduled time with all of your documents so that we can look at them for the first time at our initial meeting.

Our firm is different from the other employment law firms that you will talk to in that:

  • We ask you to forward relevant documents to us at least 24 hours in advance;
  • We will review those documents in advance of the strategy session so that we can have a substantive conversation with you about your case and not spend half of the strategy session looking at your documents for the first time; and
  • We will not waste your one-hour of time going over administrative tasks because we require that the consultation fee be paid 48 hours in advance of the consultation so that we can secure your consultation time. This allows us to start the initial consultation immediately. Prospective clients can pay for their initial consultation via our secure payment portal by clicking here.

Fee Structures

If we decide to represent you, The Law Firm of J.W. Stafford, L.L.C. will then discuss an appropriate fee structure with you.  We are a firm that is committed to our clients, and we have various fee structures available for our employment law clients.  Those fee structures include a fixed fee arrangement, an alternative fee arrangement or an hourly fee arrangement.  Once we have had an opportunity to meet with you during our strategy session, we will then outline a clear fee structure for you.

Fixed Fee Arrangement

We understand the importance of a budget, and we strive to enter into fixed fee arrangements with our clients when possible.  Oftentimes, we can handle certain matters on a fixed fee basis.  For example, we’ve reviewed severance agreements for clients on a fixed fee basis, as well as represented clients for a one-day EEOC mediation on a fixed fee basis.  Our ability to enter into a fixed fee arrangement is primarily dependent on your needs and the complexity of the legal issue at hand.

Hourly Fee Arrangement

There are some employment matters where it is more advantageous for you to engage us on an hourly basis.  The hourly rate for one of our attorneys in employment law matters ranges between $325‑$425/hr., depending on the matter.

Alternative Fee Arrangement

We also enter into alternative fee arrangements with our employment law clients, which typically involve a reduced hourly rate combined with a percentage of any recovery before the deduction of costs and expenses.  This alternative fee arrangement allows the firm and the client to partner on the particular matter.  Because this type of arrangement depends on your unique circumstances, as well as the type of employment law matter you have, one of our attorneys will outline for you the exact fee structure we are able to enter into during your strategy session.

We are always trying to find the best way to work with and partner with our clients, so don’t hesitate to talk with us about fees. How many employment law firms do you know say absolutely nothing about fees on their website?  Well, that’s why we’re different and that’s just one of the reasons why our clients trust us.
